Modern
Psychotherapy

Virtual reality opens new dimensions in psychotherapy: With Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy, in short VRET, patients can be specifically confronted with their fears, obsessions, or stressful situations in a safe environment. VRET allows for customizable, gradual, and controlled exposure that can be precisely managed by therapists. This also benefits patients who find it difficult to imagine stressful situations or to face them in real life.

Numerous scientific studies demonstrate that VRET is as effective for anxiety disorders, social phobias, and panic disorders as traditional in-person exposure therapy. VRET often receives high acceptance from patients, positive effects are long-lasting, and can be transferred to everyday behavior.

The effectiveness and safety of VR exposure therapy are recognized by international medical guidelines and S3 guidelines, particularly for specific phobias. Therefore, VRET is increasingly recommended as an evidence-based, forward-looking complement in modern psychotherapy.

More Knowledge

Real immersion

With the 360° VR headset, patients experience real-life filmed everyday situations so intensely that they feel real.

This immersive experience allows for the targeted identification of triggers for psychological stress – and above all, to effectively, efficiently, and safely practice helpful behavioral patterns.

Online training on VRET

Training courses on VRET in psychotherapy

Lab E's popular CME continuing education seminars offer practical, scientifically sound training for the professional use of Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy.

  • IMPULSE: In compact sessions, experienced experts provide inspiring insights into specific application areas of VRET – ideal for getting a taste, refreshing your knowledge and thinking further.
  • SERIES: In this format, participants delve deeply into central themes and complex treatment concepts of VR-supported psychotherapy – with plenty of room for theory, practice and discussion.
  • REFLECTIONS: Peer-to-peer intervisions with subject experts enable collegial exchange, case discussions and joint reflection on current challenges in everyday VRET practice.

All formats promote networking and knowledge transfer for a safe integration of VRET into psychotherapeutic practice.

VR devices

The Pico 3G and Pico 4 Ultra Enterprise models are particularly well-suited for use with the VT system in psychotherapy, as they are wireless standalone headsets that enable simple, flexible use in the therapy room. Both models offer high resolution and smooth image display, which are crucial for realistic and effective exposure.

The VT system runs stably on both devices and benefits particularly from the lightweight pancake lenses and improved wearing comfort on the Pico 4 Ultra, which makes longer sessions more pleasant and is also suitable for people who wear glasses.

We offer both models pre-installed, with 2 years of service, 1 year manufacturer's warranty and a practical storage box.

What our VRET experts say from practice:

It was also surprising for us how well virtual therapy scenarios are received and how effective they can be. Our study shows that a supportive, therapy-accompanying VR relaxation intervention can be effectively implemented and is effective even in an outpatient psychiatric setting.

Prof. Dr. med. Christine Rummel-Kluge

Senior physician and head of the psychiatric outpatient clinic at Leipzig University Hospital

The VR applications open up new possibilities in therapeutic practice, especially in the treatment of anxiety. Exposures can be tailored to the individual needs of patients, making therapy not only more effective but also significantly more efficient. The new extensions particularly enhance the options for supporting the patient during exposure and offer a variety of new VR videos and treatment options. I no longer want to miss VR in therapeutic work.

Virtual reality allows me to meet patients exactly where they are. The combination of immersive VR experiences with personal contact creates a safe space where difficult topics can be addressed more easily. This way, it is possible to not only develop new insights but also to sustainably transfer them into everyday life – a challenge that often lies at the heart of therapeutic work.
